I've finished my summer reading....have you?

Seniors, you should begin to be thinking about what it's like to view the world from the perspective of the "other", the "outsider".  How does that affect your experience?  We will begin the first full week of school by reading through the traditional "Beowulf" text.  Be prepared to notice dissimilarities.  

Freshmen, by now you have chosen Sula or Brave New World and have finished one of them.  Our Course Throughline, or the theme of our entire year, will be “What does a study of literature tell us about the inequalities of our world?”  So, in preparation for both our year and the initial paper assignment, you should begin to be thinking about how inequality is represented in the text you have read.

Greetings to all!  Just a quick note....as you begin (gasp) your back to school shopping, here is a list of supplies for my classes.

1) A LARGE notebook devoted solely to my class
2) A folder that I will keep in the class as your portfolio over the course of the year
3) Two pens...you should never be without them.
4) A flashdrive (they are very cheap compared to when I was younger...).  1GB is more than enough.

This information will be given in detail on the first day of school, I just wanted to give you all a heads up.  I assume you've finished the summer reading?  If you have, congrats!  Have some cake to celebrate.  Mr. L

Hello all!  Just a reminder to all of you to be thinking that the summer days are pouring through our hands like grains of elusive sand and that, before we know it, the school year will be here!  I hope that everyone has at least obtained a copy of their summer reading and that, hopefully, you have all begun working on it.  Seniors, you will be given no parole should you arrive on the first day unprepared.  Freshmen, leniency will be given only to those students that register at the very last moment and, even for these few cases, the novels will be completed within one week of the first day of school.  Anyway...I hope you are all enjoying the freedom.  See you soon!  Mr. L

Here's to hoping that everyone has an enjoyable summer break.  However, as you all very well know, you each have a summer reading assignment that needs to be completed before the first day of school.  

Incoming Freshmen:  You will have a short paper to write over the novel you have read.

Incoming Seniors:  You will have a diagnostic quiz on the first Friday of school and will also be writing a research paper over the following weeks using a combination of critical essays  and your own findings.  Be forewarned, the summer reading assignment is a requirement.  See you soon....
NOTE- As for the texts, I suggest Amazon.com  I ordered mine from there and they were fairly inexpensive.
