ELA I:
- Response:  (20 minutes).  Go online and research the Greek concept of hospitality (called "xenia").  Take notes on what you find and email them to me at laflinenglish@gmail.com.  After 20 minutes, move on to reading the Odyssey.

-  Today you will be responsible for reading and annotating:
       a) Argus (600)
       b) The Suitors (603)
       c) Penelope (605)
       *ONE JOURNAL (TOTAL) FOR ALL 3 PARTS*

- Make sure your annotations include references to Odysseus' cleverness as a hero.  What can you find to support your answer?

- Done?  Work on Journal #9


HW- Journal #9 will cover all 3 of these parts (Argus, Suitors, Penelope).  We are closing in on completion of the entire Odyssey so make sure your journals are current.

ELA II:
Explanatory Essay (5-6 lengthy and well written paragraphs)

- Response : (5 minutes)  Reread the entirety of page 58, especially the assignment.  After this, discuss your work for the "prewriting/planning stage"

- Today you will be working on/completing your first draft of the explanatory essay.   Begin by reading through ALL of pages 60 and 61.  In addition to completing the first draft, do everything that the two pages instruct you to do, in order.

HW- Your first draft is expected, completed, on Wednesday.

ELA III: (*see below for SL project)
- Response- Read 142 and 143 and complete the "Summary" on page 144.  Don't rip it out.  Take a picture of your work and email it to me at laflinenglish@gmail.com.  Then:

A) Read and annotate (take note, underline, circle, etc) pages 148-151 (this should take awhile)

B) Read 153 and then Whitman's poems on 155, 157-159, 160, 161, and 162.  Make sure to tkae your time reading them (i'm printing out a quiz for next class.  Take notes and answer the CLOSE READ questions in the margins

C) (Write right in your book) Answer 1-6 on 163 and 1-6 on 164.  You will hand this in next class.



* Your Scarlet Letter project will involve the creation of a "movie trailer" for a fictional version of the novel we just completed.  See below for an example.  It's due in a couple weeks.
