OMM Chapter 5 Extended Questions

5) How have the “best laid plans” been ruined?  Should we have known that, having read the poem, this would happen?  Explain. 

6) Who does Candy blame for what happened to CW?  Why?

7) What is Curley’s reaction to finding his wife?  Is he sad, or is he just angry?  What is he planning to do? 

8) What does Slim say about what might happen to Lennie if he is caught?  What does Slim suggest about a cage? 

9) How does Chapter 5 represent the “climax” of the story in terms of Freytag’s Pyramid?

10) Where is Carlson’s gun?  Is it likely that Lennie took it with him on the run?
